Paw Paw - Log Days 108 & 109: "To Sail, or Not To Sail? - That is the Question"

While we sit on the trampoline, enjoying our sundowners and the setting sun behind Moorea, we are pleased with our decision, along with a number of other WARC yachts, not to join the rest of the fleet, the last of whom arrived today, in the Papeete Marina. Although it would be lovely to see folks we haven't seen since leaving the Marquesas, we preferred not to look at the commercial dock or deal with the city traffic noise and pollution.

We did, however, take the bus into Papeete yesterday to finalise our clearing in process and visit with some of the yachts that had already ariived, as well explore the city and enjoy lunch.

We were disappointed to learn though, that the prize-giving for the longest leg of the circumnavigation was not going to include a dinner, but just a drink and snacks. This definitely doesn't seem like an adequate celebration of the achievement in our humble opinion.

We're looking forward to the prize-giving, however, and awards reflecting the sailing spirit vs a motoring one, since we know of a number yachts, when faced with the question to sail or not to sail, bobbed around for two days, waiting on the wind to kick in after leaving the Galapagos, rather than turn on their engines or those that arrived in the Marquesas needing little to no fuel.

Regardless of the outcome, it'll be lovely to see everyone again before we have to say our goodbyes!
