Helen - Day 9 - Big Dog day

Today was the second and last day of doing some office work at sea. It all went very smoothly thanks to the technology of IT@sea and my only regret was having to miss the Christmas party,

It was also the day of reaching the middle of our journey, 1400 miles done and 1400 to go. We celebrated in style with scones, clotted cream and jam washed down by tea and a fizzy drink.

Trade wind sailing is about heading west with the wind behind you from the east. Today was the first day for us when we were fully in the trades and the conditions right to use our biggest sail, the asymmetric, or Big Dog as it is called by Paul.

It was exhilarating to have the Big Dog out for a while giving us an extra 1.5 knots of speed but it was put back in it's kennel before dark to avoid the next squalls.
