Abigail - Abigail - 11-09 Beating to the finish

Good morning. Well we are about 360 miles from the finish. A long way in a sailboat. Made even longer by the fact that is appears we will be beating the rest of the way. Yesterday was a long windless day of motorsailing and we began to worry we would run out of fuel. That worry has been eased since last evening when a SW wind of 15-20 came up amid numerous squalls. We were largely successful at dodging most of them and most only seemmed to carry rain and little additional wind. We didn't miss then all, however, and a few did have lots of wind.

During one squall the jib roller furler got stuck with the jib out and after we resolved that problem it got stuck with the jib in. After that we sailed with the staysail instead of the jib until morning when we could see the problem. It made for an exciting and exhausting evening. This morning we are beating in a SSE breeze of about 12-15 knots. A few squalls are still in the area, but far fewer than last night. All is well with the crew. Bernie and Pat are sleeping now. A well deserved rest.
