Kaoha Nui to Marquesas World ARC!

23 March 2016

It has been  a busy 48 hrs of arrivals in Hiva Oa in Marquesas Islands as crews complete the 3000 miles of Leg 4 of the Rally.

The first World ARC yacht to arrive in Hiva Oa into Atuona harbour was Alcedo of Ryme, followed by Chilli Bee and Paradise Found; now 12 yachts have arrived and the bay will soon get crowded!

The participants were welcomed with flower leis and fresh fruits from the World ARC team, and all the crews arriving so far have reported some great sailing conditions and just few squalls and lack of wind in the first part of the crossing

Crews have started to explore the town, island and local hotels, restaurants and guest houses, there’s also a daily shuttle service into town and few crews have rented a car to visit the island with its’ terrific landscapes, the Tikis, the Polynesian statues, and more.

Sunday for the “Dimanche des Rameaux”  there was a procession to church, for this occasion people wear red clothes and sing religious hymns, the spectacle was superb.

The crew met at Relais Moheau for a Pizza Night to welcome the new arrivals, have a chat about the pacific crossing and to plan the Marquesas and Tuamotu cruising before meeting again in Papeete for the 28th.

Participants reported that was great to catch up with friends, there was loud and lively conversation, and it was a good occasion for organising a “summit hike”, a walking tour all together.
