World ARC 2016/17 Start, Leg 2 – Santa Marta to San Blas

21 January 2016

The World ARC fleet has departed for the islands of San Blas with the memories of a very enjoyable and entertaining week with wonderful hosts in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Weather conditions for the start were considerably better than yesterday - when unseasonally strong winds delayed the fleet's departure from the Atlantic coast of Colombia - with flat seas and light easterly wind. Race instructions were broadcast by Rally Control from the breakwater of Marina Santa Marta with a good view of the start line and the fleet.

At the sound of the start horn, the fleet had a clean start and began sailing west-south-west for the 280NM leg towards the eastern end of San Blas Islands.

Leg 2 is expected to be quick and a little uncomfortable with choppy seas. Once the fleet cleared the start line and away from the shelter of the coast, the weather conditions changed  quickly to 25/30 knots from North. Winds are forecast to be 25-35kt east-north-easterlies for entire trip to San Blas.

We look forward to seeing the fleet at the rendez-vous at Chichime in San Blas islands.
