ARC Europe and ARC USA get under way

After a busy programme during the week in Nanny Cay Marina the 37 boats on ARC Europe and USA were ready to take the start on a windy Saturday morning. After checking out with Customs and Immigration the day before, receiving all the information for the next leg at the skipper’s briefing, having their last breakfast ashore, calling friends and family the boats left under the steel pan music to proceed to the start line around 1100 Local Time.

With good wind condition at the start for a downwind start with about 15 to 18Knots of wind from the East the 1st boat to cross the line was Pure Elegance followed by Yoda and Franny B very close from Anakin. Most of the boats crossed under sail some having their Parasailor up as well as Genaker for Tellstar or Code Zero for TeamGeist.

The leg is taking the boats up to St-George’s in Bermuda about 850NM North from Tortola where the 1st boats should arrive around Thursday evening, Friday morning.

The 5 other boats going to Fort lauderdale left either the day before or early morning on Saturday, the leading boat Karina will take them Marina Bahiamar where they should start to arrive on Friday or Saturday.
