The first World ARC vessel to arrive at Richards Bay was Influencer

The first World ARC vessel to arrive at Richards Bay was Influencer, arriving at approximately 3:30am on Sunday the 11th of November to complete their first ocean crossing with the World ARC 2018 fleet. Influencer was met by Zululand Sailing Commodore Gerrit Smit and World ARC Rally Control to pilot them to their berth and welcome them to South Africa. Misto was second to arrive and first multihull. The bulk of the fleet arrived in time to enjoy their first South African braai followed by an incredible big five safari trip to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. By early afternoon Tuesday, World ARC 2018 fleet had all arrived, checked in and cleared customs in South Africa. That evening the participants enjoyed a delicious wine tasting no further than the end of their pontoons at the Zululand Yacht Club pelican deck.

Wednesday World ARC participants did various activities like running boat chores, provisioning and touring the Wetlands of South Africa, where they saw lots of hippopotamuses! The Zululand yacht club later hosted Wednesday Night Sailing around the cans. John and Angela on Madrigal exchanged Yacht Club burgees after Race Prize Night.

The programme continues with second tour to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve and cruising to Cape Town briefing with Brad Kortenbout. The week of festivities culminates with a traditional Zulu dancing, dinner and Prize Giving party.

Crews have various agendas planned for their free cruising time to Cape Town. What everyone will be watching closely is the weather and planning their passage with the famed Agulas current! Zululand Yacht Club once again has provided a great first impression of South Africa, the remainder of the country is sure to impress and provide lifetime memories!
