Firefly - ARC Eurovision Song Contest

All is well aboard Firefly after almost 2 days of blissful sailing. The expected light winds have been just enough to make good progress towards the Azores using our Assymetric Spinnaker. Achieving the desired course and heading north east we have managed to log 330 miles sailed in the first 48 hours. However, the wind has now veered and it is a difficult decision whether to ybe and head north or whether to just carry on east.....heading north east is no longer possible at a reasonable speed. We have elected to gybe but will download the latest weather gribs soon in order to work out our strategy and make sure that heading north is the best call.

Mike, our new crew member has settled in very well and life aboard with 3 people means 50% less watches and much more sleep ......in fact it feels like a holiday after our two handed leg from the BVIs to Bermuda.

Firefly was SSB Net Controller on Thursday 17th May and managed to contact all of the yachts who had expressed an interest in joining the Net. On the morning roll call we requested each boat  to suggest a favourite tune and to either play it or sing it. Chat Eau Bleu gave us the first few verses of drunken sailor although they assured us they were a dry ship. Mazu was very tuneful with a German folksong sung by the english speaking radio operator....it sounded good. Devona treated us to a few bars of ‘Mans world’ the reception seeming to be hifi quality. Ruby Rose was declared the winner by playing ‘Wish you were here’, a very appropriate track from Pink Floyd.
