Blonde Moment - Blonde Moment Blog No 5

Hello everyone, BM here again, in fact it is again as blog written earlier was eaten by the computer so we were unable to send it!

Having had some fabulous trade wind sailing at 10 to 12 kts boat speed in 20 kts of wind, we are now in lighter airs and sailing further South to find some more trade winds as they decreased too much to sail productively! So that is why it might look like look like we're going in the wrong direction again! At the last check though, we are still 2nd in our class and catching the lead boat up. We had a little chat to Blonde Moment and she's going to do what she can, with a little help from the Captain and crew in setting her sails correctly!!! We have three up at the moment, poled out gib, full main and the staysail, doing a nice speed over ground of 7knots and about to reach the half way mark of 1,500miles to go! Apparently we're having pancakes tomorrow to celebrate, yum!

The moon is growing by the day (or should I say night!!) and lighting our path for a few hours. Looking forward to a full one soon.

Kedgeree for supper, unfortunately no fresh fish to go in it, doesn't help when there are at 2 crew members who don't want to catch one because he'll have to be killed (poor fish!) and another who doesn't like eating fish!! It was amazing to see how quickly the colour changed on the Dorado we caught, he was a beautiful green and within minutes a mucky brown...tasted good though! We are definitely eating well on board!

It's fun chatting to some of the other boats on a daily basis. We have a "conference call" with Mad Monkey and Mischief and another check-in with all the other boats in our fleet. One had a fire on board today, the result was that their microwave has been given to Neptune, thankfully no-one was hurt. A number of boats have had to retire from the Rally some with rig and some with engine problems . Others have had divert into the Cape Verde Islands to refuel!

Today was hot under the clears skies and the dress code for the day was bikinis all round (yep, Paul and Ian too!!) ( Editorial intervention here - think not Zoe - T-shirts and shorts for the boys) and by noon hiding in the shade of the sails for the rest of the afternoon.

Anyway, better get back on watch and to gazing at the moon,

Until later...Blonde Moment out
