Wild Iris - Trans-Atlantic11: Swordfish skewers!

On Sunday we finally got around to trying our hand at fishing. All that needs said is that it is the sort of “the one that got away”. Whilst we were all chewing over the latest weather reports [not true] there was suddenly that unmistakeable sound of line flying out of the reel. The next 15 minutes were something to behold as Neil was suddenly in a fight akin to “The Old Man and The Sea”. It was when the hooked fish breached that we all took a hard intake of breath. At the end of the line was a massive Swordfish not fifty metres from the boat. The crew witnessing this estimated it to be probably 5-6 ft in length. At this point it became obvious that 300 metres of 80lb line, a nylon leader and a full kite were going to be the determining factors. After some 15 minutes the battle came to an end….Neil 0 Fish 1. Somewhat a relief to the skipper who wasn't sure who would be skewering who when it came to landing such a beast. (Neil left, Richard Right in photo.)
