Wild Iris - log day 5. Happy Days! Thursday 8th November

Here we are are enjoying champagne sailing conditions off the West coast of Africa. It is truly hard to believe where we are and what we are doing. Certainly different from the M25!

Since Wednesday midnight the weather gods have blessed us with 12 to 20 knots of wind and gently rolling seas. Wild Iris, with her kite full, has again showed her heels averaging in excess of 7.5 knots over 16 hours.

In addition the day has again been full of wildlife sightings with further displays from dolphins. The flying fish have been flying all day and a lone turtle gently made his way passed. There was a sighting, by two of the crew, of a slowly moving black fin. Was it a shark?

As ever the food aboard has been first class with all the crew taking turns in preparing meals. Today's lunch was freshly made coleslaw with a selection of cold meats and cheeses followed by freshly made ratatouille and pasta for dinner.

Excitement is mounting as it is now looking possible that Wild Iris will reach Mindelo in the early hours of Saturday morning. Missing all our friends and family.
