Adele 1 - Adele1 log - Day 6

Afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

So its the day after the race start. Yesterday was ofcourse a busy day, starting at daybreak the crew were up and raring to go. 2 hours were spent consuming coffee and doing last minute checks and tidying of the boat.
A few hours before the start gun we spent just outside the marina running the sails up and getting the feel of the days sailing.
An excellent view of all the surrounding boats was on offer as the radio chirped '10 mins to go' '5 mins to go' andddd 'GO!' and we were off! The moment we had been waiting for for weeks had finally arrived and we were underway at last!
Feeling of triumph were unfortunately shortlived as a few hours in we went to furl the headsail to be replaced with a parasail now the wind conditions allowed for it. Turns out what was this morning a functioning furler was no longer functioning this afternoon. Some time was spent manually furling the headsail and we proceeded into the night with just the mainsail up at a steady but not particularly exciting 7 knots. so much for the fast start we had all planned out!
After everyone smoothly managed their night shifts and muddled through a few hours of sleep filled with dreams of parasails and 20 knot winds. We woke today to some favourable conditions. With the highly anticipated parasail up, the wind straight behind us and the winds giving us a helping hand today we are really feeling like we are making some progress. (Shame the fishing has had to take a backseat but none of us want to be dropping the sail to fight fish as we lost so much time yesterday)

Best regards!
