Timshel - Fiji to Vanuatu Day 1

We all had a nice time in Musket Cove, though perhaps did not quite have the time to really appreciate the ambience of the place due to getting ready for departure. Somewhat bittersweet as so many boats leaving the rally to do more here then head for NZ - hopefully we will catch up with most of them when we all join next year's rally.

The start line was between the reefs,Hannah lead off with her Parasailor. At the briefing Stefano had mentioned and shown a diagram of a smaller exit before the main pass and said you could go that way. Skyelark of Hamblin (Pied Piper)turned up through that passed to be followed by the whole rest of the fleet. Hannah protested to rally control that the written instructions said Manolo reef to port (which they alone had done). Coming out of the pass in the outer reef we had to harden up onto a close reach - so to add insult to injury Hannah had to drop the Parasailor and stop to hoist her mainsail. The wind got up and it got rather bouncy with the boat charging along under all white sails, but we had to reef. Overnight it calmed down and the hydrovane could steer, still making good progress. Could see Ain't Fancy, Zeeland, Lexington Owl on AIS all night, also Cesarina (who started from Denerau and didn't make the line)later on.
