Laura Dawn - Pacific Log 16: We've arrived!

After a full night of lightening storms, variable winds (from 2 knots to 29 knots), emergency spinnaker rescuing in the path of huge squalls, we have arrived in Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands. We crossed the line at 10.31 our time, which is local to Galapagos, so 3.5 hours behind French Polynesia. We didn't change our clocks the whole way, so after sailing for 3 weeks we are still jet-lagged!

It feels monumental: 3100 miles of Pacific. The weather and ocean were kind to us and LD held up beautifully. Our spinnaker (which we have now named Holly) didn't hold up so well unfortunately, with some 11 rips in total needing repair over the journey. Many more and we would have a spinnaker made entirely of rip-stop..

There's a few checks, repairs and general maintenance to do now but mostly rest and enjoy French Polynesia and what we have just achieved. Thankfully the Polynesian rain is washing our decks for us.
