Lexington - 3/21/17. 9°. 47' south. 134°. 48 west

Well we ended up motoring from midnight on in good wind because we anticipated less wind and did not put up the correct sail for the night until it was dark and too late. We could have put something up but we are trying to be conservative and not break, tear up anything or hurt anyone and that sort of thing is more common in the dark. Mark got a little rope burn a day ago when the spinnaker sheet pulled thru his unprotected hand. I know I have always gotten into more trouble when the lights were out.
We are about 250 miles out. The last beer in the refrigerator is mine. I have been trying to sell it to Mark but he has been cheap. It is probably losing value now that we are so close to land.
We will put up some sails at daylight. Hopefully we can sail into port just like Captain Cook. It will be nice to see everyone again. Hopefully everyone has done well. They are a pretty good bunch of sailors. Most all of us are fairly close together but that is all relative. We say we are close because we are bringing up the rear. The next boat ahead of us says "we beat them by a whole day". It is a tribute to the other boats that they have done so well. We have done great. We have had one day of 180 miles. We have pushed thru the night. With all that we are bringing up the rear! My boat is a little bit of a tub that is loaded down. At least that is my excuse.
I got an email from my daughter. She is in Lexington with her kids for spring break. Kelly took the kids by Boone Creek Creamery to get some cheese. Ed was there and gave them the full welcome. It is nice that they know a little more about where their food comes from. Many thanks to Ed!
May fair winds fill your sails but you have to be ready to seize the opportunity! Bob
