Timshel - Galapagos to Marquesas Day 18

A somewhat frustrating day with fickle wind varying in direction and strength, and rain showers. First thing in the morning rain and stronger wind more from the south, so our heading more north. But just when we'd decided to take out the pole and have all sails on same side on a reach, wind died and now coming more from North so our heading now more south. Just steered the boat downwind, whatever course gave enough speed to keep sailing. It's a bit like Dickens Mr Macawber - for sailing downwind, 12-18 knots wind equals boat sailing nicely all happy, less than 12 knots of wind, misery - boat is rolling in the swell sails alternately slatting and banging, hardly possible to stand up on deck or do anything useful.
