Bluewaft - Log Day 19 - Sailing off into the sunset

Bluewaft Log Day 19
Thursday 8 December 2016
18°59’.827N 051°55’.886W
Another day of sailing in light winds. After starting on a beam reach
we’ve switched to a goose-wing using the gennaker and genoa. We’re
averaging 4-5kts in 10-11 kts of wind from the East. So still making
progress – but slower than we’d hoped. The forecast increase in winds is
yet to materialise. Still, it’s a comfortable sail and we are making
progress.
The temperature has noticeably increased, with ‘no shirts’ the order of the
day. The best spots are on the netting where you get the cool air coming
off the waves.
Still no fish. Jame’s ‘lucky lure’ was lost and no nibbles on either of
the other lines. We’ve plenty of food anyway, but the fresh fish is always
appreciated. We’re also now starting to get low on fresh vegetables. The
green peppers have gone. Still plenty of tomatoes and the last of lettuce
– so not bad. The bread has also (surprisingly) still lasted. (We don’t
want to think about the preservatives). Plenty of potatoes, onions and
garlic – (although we may need some breath freshener before we go ashore).
Alex’s crop of alfalfa looks ready to harvest – so we will get our greens
one way or the other!
For yesterday’s lunch Alex cooked a Spanish Fritata to Magali’s recipe.
Sun-downers were a ruum cocktail (2 part Bacardi rum, 1 part Grand Marnier,
½ Gran Pomier with grapefruit juice) – we’ve run out of coconut cream and
pineapple juice – so sacrifices must be made! For dinner we had my now
standard BBQ beef solomillo and vegetables.
As usual, today we’re hoping for more wind and more fish (in that order
please!)
Happy sails
