Boni Venti - LOG DAY 5

No rumbling stomachs from yesterday’s fresh tuna, which was a relief! Quiet night with limited swell and clear skies.

Porpoises swimming next to Boni Venti and playing in the bow wave – fabulous to see! Good supper on deck – lamb tagine and cous-cous followed by some ice cream. All in better spirits this evening.

We’ve advised ARC rally control that we’re heading to Mindelo in the Cape Verde Islands to disembark Scott and our ETA is now Saturday 26 Nov in the afternoon. Unfortunately owner Gavin will be leaving the yacht as well as he has had a bereavement in the family and needs to return to the UK to fly to South Africa for the funeral. So we have made the decision to continue the Rally with Robert continuing to skipper and a total of four crew on board. A handful of other boats are heading for Mindelo for fuel etc so we’re not alone.

Air temperature – 26 degs. Sea temperature – 24 degs. It’s hotting up and the butter (well, the margarine) is indeed starting to melt! Wind speed dropped to 11 kts by 1500 so genoa furled, mainsail centred and we’re motoring to get us through this quiet patch so that we make Mindelo in daylight tomorrow afternoon.

No success on the rod yesterday – the (luminous yellow) line became very tangled following the fight with the tuna the other day, so we ended up cutting off approx 100 ft of the line and are now back to untangled, full strength line.

More tomorrow.

Jonathan.
