Endeavour of Cork - Day 8 - 1000 miles!

At 1618, in whatever time zone we're currently in, we passed the 1000 nautical miles sailed mark!!! Cause for a little celebration - in my head anyway.

I have a few milestones in my head, and that's the first one of them. Next will be the notional halfway mark, 1045nm. Then will be the point at which the distance to go is less than the distance sailed (we get emailed fleet positions and info every morning, and this includes distance to go). Only at that point will I really accept that we're on the homeward stretch!

We've had a glorious day sailing under spinnaker, keeping up an average speed of about 5kts - thankfully the wind seems to have filled in from somewhere, contrary to all forecasts that we'd seen - we've been lazing around, reading, napping, and in my case mostly trying to avoid the blistering midday sun! It's clouded over now though, and is feeling even more humid than usual, so I'm guessing we may possibly be in for a squall or two tonight. There was some talk of stopping for a swim this evening, but we are loath to waste the wind while it's blowing, so we're keeping going - maybe tomorrow.

It's lovely to hear the sound of silence with the engine off and just the water lapping by again after all that time under motor. Hopefully it lasts through the night so I can sleep without earplugs!

Endeavour - over and out.
