Enigma - Day 5 - slow

Subject: Day 5 - slow
Crew mates are all asleep, or reading, as I sit in the cockpit wondering how I can get another knot out of the rig we have. Bermudan rigs really don't like sailing dead downwind so we've elected to gybe down the rhum line. Meanwhile our wonderful code 0 sits in its bag sulking. We have a list of things to do in Mindelo and checking over and repacking our Simbo rig is one of them.

Despite that we've made good progress. Our 24 hour average speeds have been 6.6 kts, 7.2 kts and today a miserly 6.4 kts. In a HR40 that's packed to the gunwales we all feel that is pretty good going.

Food has, as always, been brilliant. Like everyone else in Enigma's crew I'll come back heavier than when I left. And...what happened to the tropical weather ? Today was like sailing in the North Sea - grey and lumpy, just 20 degrees centigrade warmer. I did notice the layers steadily being added to everyone's attire.

Today we did see flying fish and shearwaters. We also had an abortive attempt to play Trivial Pursuit but the cards never made it out of the box. Its just been one of those days.

Hope to be in Mindelo tomorrow.

Bye for now.

Paul, Viv, Allan and Diane
