Paw Paw - Log Day 268: Exploration of Denarau Island On Foot

Elaine awoke "full of beans", so she decided to bake crumpets to accompany our breakfast of delicious tropical fruits - papaya, pineapple, watermelon, green and red grapes and oranges.

We then decided that an exploration of Denarau Island on foot would not only give us some exercise, but give us a more upfront and personal experience.

Once we'd left the marina complex, our walk took us along a meandering concrete pathway under shady trees and through beautifully maintained gardens, passing various gated communities that sported very fancy homes and apartments, before we spotted the Sofitel Resort, where we made our way through their reception, patio and pool areas and onto the beach.

We followed the beach and purpose built pathways along the entire western side of the island, passing through the various resorts lining the shoreline, including the Westin, Sheraton, Hilton and Radisson, where we stopped for morning coffee a nd enjoyed the views of the Mamanuca Islands. If we didn't know better we could have been in Maui, Hawai'i or Arizona.

The whole layout reminded us of so many of the Adult Communities in Arizona, including the golf course and tennis courts, with one major exception. The price to play a round of golf was at least five times more expensive than what we paid in Arizona and, for that matter, in Samoa and it's not even a champion course. Tennis was reasonably priced though, but unfortunately we'll have to pass on that one with Elaine's ankle not being completely mended yet.

En route back to Paw Paw we collected our dive tank, saildrive oil and cleaning products, following which a much needed afternoon nap was in order!
