Majic-L - Majical Challenge Day 9

After we had spotted the showers last night, early morning trip across in the inflatable to use the facilities. Got chatting to the cleaner - turns out she came here on a sailing trip herself and liked the place so much she came back and stayed.
Came back to bacon butties that Richard had served up - had to wolf them down to get across for the Alderney railway trip at 9am. What a quaint little railway - an old diesel pulling some ex London Underground carriages. Only a relatively short length of track but lots to see and some great views across the harbour - at one point you could see both shorelines on either side of the Island. After looking around the lighthouse, Richard and Linda took the train back whilst Tony and I walked back along the coast. We came across a beer festival in "The Moorings" - £15 for 6 pints. We said we had an hour, so 6 pints may just have been doable but we would not have been sailing afterwards! Some Alderney pasties for lunch and back to sea for the sail to Cherbourg. Turned out to be one of the best sails of the week - blue skies and enough wind that we sailed three quarters of the way. Celebrated when we arrived with some channel island beers Tony had bought before meeting the ARC crowd at the yacht club. Good to compare notes with the others - will be strange when we finish but another couple of days yet. Most of us headed off into town in search of a restaurant - we picked "Le Coq restaurant de terroirs" where they had a set menu of 3 courses for €17.90. Between us we could translate what was beef, chicken, fish etc - but I used an app called "google translate" which used the camera on the phone to show the menu to us in English - free app and very useful. It was a bit weird when Richard and I went to use the gents and a French lady came out of the cubical (and we were in the right one!) "pardon Monsieur". So back to the boat and tomorrow for the serious wine and cheese shopping in the morning we never had time for when we were here earlier in the week.
