South Steyne - Log Day 1 - going nowhere...yet

Thanks to the reliable British summertime weather, we are not leaving for Cherbourg tomorrow morning, looks like it might be Sunday or possibly Monday now. After a rather improved breakfast (yesterday was porridge with mixed spices - yuck), we had our safety meeting on board this morning and had an interesting MOB conversation. With so many variables to consider, followed by the difficult task of actually getting some-one back on board, especially if you are short handed, it does seem like the best possible advice is to just prevent it from happening in the first place. Stay in the cockpit, tight jack stays, clip on, short safety lines, maintaining a low centre of gravity, shoes with good grip, one hand for you and the other for the boat.....
After visiting a local chandlery and leaving with lots of things we didn't know we needed, we had plenty of little jobs to do to keep us busy today. Fitting a new horseshoe which involved moving and refitting almost everything else on the push-pit. Trying to work out why our in-mast furling main doesn't do what it says on the tin - furl and unfurl easily! After consulting Google and YouTube, we now have a plan.
The skipper's briefing aboard the lightship this afternoon was interesting and informative. Now we are just hoping for improved weather so we can get going.
Guess its time to hit the sack and wonder what surprises Martin has up his sleeve for tomorrows breakfast?
