Aretha - Past the Half Way Mark

Progress continues at pace on Aretha.

We’re now over half way to St Lucia. As of right now, we have exactly 1,255 miles to go and we’re at 18 32.479 N and 39 38.787 W.

This is proper trade wind sailing. Consistent 10-15 knots of breeze and heading downwind at a steady 7 knots. Alan the autopilot is doing all the hard work steering the boat and we’re enjoying life on board.

It’s definitely hotter - shorts and T-Shirt are almost too warm at night on deck. Hearing how cold it is in the UK makes us grateful to be here.

We ran the water maker again today and in the space of 6 hours topped up our tanks with c300 litres of water. Amazing bit of kit and essential for our travels and plans into the Pacific.

The children had a cocktail party on board today making their own cups fashioned from half an orange dried in the sun and home made drinks umbrella’s. The drinks were mixtures of fruit juices and lemonade. The party was held at happy hour to move the clocks by an hour and to have an awards ceremony for all on board for living the boat values and for what we’ve achieved so far. Jani cooked another first class meal and Paul gave us a talk on sayings that originated from the sea such as “letting the cat out of the bag” - referring to the Cat o Nine Tails, Son of a Gun, Posh and many more.

We passed another yacht, Red Devil half an hour ago. In fact we had to gybe to let her pass in front of us. All these thousands of miles and suddenly you’re half a mile from another boat.

Life is settled and all is well.

Over and out from team Aretha.
