Nexus - Happiness is 15kts true wind on the beam! A great birthday present for Ness!

Happiness is 15kts of true wind on the beam, and a 2 kt current pushing as along our way! We've been averaging 10-12kts SOG over the last 24 hours and are all smiles on board. We're trying our best to pamper Ness on her birthday, and mother nature is helping us! It's a bit solitary out here, as the rest of the World ARC fleet is spread out enough to be out of VHF range, but we enjoy catching up on the regular SSB nets. We made a decision to sail with the prevailing winds out of Galapagos until they dropped below 8 kts, then motor sail SW to below 8 degrees south where the GRIB files showed consistent trade winds with a drop in wind significantly above that line. We were delighted to have motored only a few hours yesterday before we found some wind around 3 south, and significant wind below 4 south, so we turned west and we've been happily sailing along when we expected to be motoring, with the helpful current also stronger than expected. It can't last, but it sure feels good right now!

The bioluminescence continues to be magical at night, with what looked like glowing frisbee swirls spinning off our hulls and persisting for several meters aft of the boat. The moon sets early, so we have very bright stars at night with the southern cross on the horizon. The rain squalls seem to have blown out for now and we have clear skies with sunshine, and are enjoying the day!
