Free & BrEasy - Peaceful Pacific

Today, it's 31 days since we left St Lucia. One month of living the dream on board Free and Br"Easy". A quick health check up of the crew reveals that there is no scurvey, signs of teeth /hair dropping out (more than usual),sailors foot (or is it armpit?) or any other ocean diseases. Captain (Ahab) Stokes is being nice to his crew and his crew have not mutinied (yet but this is always an option). In short dear reader, we are happy! Steadily eating our way through a mountain of oranges, water melon, pineapples and in constant fear that the green, green bananas will ripen all at once. There are rumours that we can't take any fruit into the Galapagos and will have to pig out on fruit or throw it all overboard!

Despite there be nothing to do but sail and eat we are all surprisingly busy. The main preoccupation is catching up on the sleep lost during the overnight watches. When were not snoozing or taking a watch, we are sorting out the next meal, doing the dishes, checking the sails, rigging, engines etc. We have been playing around with Roger's new sail called a Screecher. Its actually very quiet but pulls the boat along beautifully in light winds. Roger amd Michael 1 have been trying their luck at the fishing game and to Michael 2's astonishment, reeled in a 20 pound Mahi Mahi which was immediately fried for lunch and will provide a further 5 dinners The remaining time is a limited amount of "Me" time. Michael 1, hauntingly, continues with his flute practice, Roger catches up on the latest edition of the Winnipeg Free Press and Michael 2 has been playing around with a Sextant although worryingly putting us two whole degrees south (that's 120 nm from the GPS position!)

Our position today is 2 degrees N and 300 nautical miles from the Galapagos. The wind now comes steadily from the south but we are still motoring as the catamaran does not sail close to the wind. Are we paying the price for going West to early? After having passed by the San Blas and Las Perlas islands we have made a decision to stop at the Galapagos islands. That is unless Roger finds a mission critical reason for heading straight to the Marquesas! The only technical problem (at present!) is the high level alarm on the sewrage holding tank in the Captains cabin. Michael's 1 & 2 are not really concerned about this!
