Webster - Log 23: Squally weather

Friday 13th: Position 15 05'N 51 17'W. A really uncomfortable night hand steering mostly in loads of wind and big seas. Again, rolling incessantly. However, less than 600 nm to go! Forecast is for lots of wind today too. We have been traveling on our rhumb line mostly today and gybed a couple of times to correct the course. Boat going really fast.

This evening the sky started off really bright but started showing ominous clouds on the horizon about 2300. Then the squalls started and Carl and I have been hand steering all night; I hit 13.2 knts in flat water during one horrendous bout having the tiger firmly by the tail. Really a case of doing battle with the elements and not for novice helms tonight I'm afraid! Not for experienced ones either! No more reefs - next step to take main off altogether. Thinks we are going to revise our no alcohol policy. My turn helming again, see you tomorrow........
