Starla - Log Day 17 - Daily distance is Improving

Hello Everyone,

Distance logged today - 176 nautical miles. Distance to date this trip - 2041 nautical miles. Remaining miles to St Lucia 1061.

As you can see from the distance logged over the day, this is the best day under sail we have had on the trip so far. The wind was in the North and continued to veer to the North East and build from 10 to 20 knots.

This gave us a pretty fast night, some times too fast and overpowered. We had to reef (reduce sail area) twice over the night and shake the reefs out early in the morning, only to put them in again as the morning progressed.

The sea state is still very uncomfortable. It is a mixture of the a swell from the north and waves on top of that from the north east.

Lunch today was anything we could conjure up considering the conditions. It was hot dogs, out of a jar, which we smeared with some very industrial looking Spanish, American mustard. Followed by cheese, which is a semi hard Spanish cheese, a bit like edam without the holes and the wax covering, the covering is a dusting of paprika, oh! and mould. This was all finished off with apple which we dunked in peanut butter (not as bad as you think).

If that was lunch I am dreading dinner!

Yesterday afternoon, Brian had another fishing success, he caught the biggest Dorado to date, must have been easily 20lb. We have some photographs, which we can share at a later date. When it was filleted, the fillets looked bigger than most of the fish we have previously caught.

We should continue to make good progress.

A cloudy morning at first then the sun has come out making it another sunny day.

Regards,

Starla Crew
