Koala - Dec 10th: Crossed 40 deg west!

Well, it might not sound much to you, but 40 degrees west is a bit of a milestone for us. We should be over half way now. There is a bottle of cava in the fridge cooling for tonight's sundowner by way of celebration and Julia has battled through in some fairly lumpy seas to make another batch of dough. So tonight is flatbreads and dhall, a bit of a favourite.

There was a bit of a discussion on the net today about wildlife out here. The two ever present species are some small black birds that flit around scooping things up from the surface that we think are Storm Petrels. The other are the flying fish, which are amazing creatures. They remind me of little silver spitfires, probably one of the later marks with the eliptical wings! They turn away from the breeze once they are up and shoot off for 100m or more. The other main birds that we have seen have been Cory's Shearwaters and some juvenile gannets that apparently travel south for the winter. We also saw a moth flutter by the cockpit the other evening. Probably very lost but it had survived 1500 odd miles already, so maybe it will get to the other side.
