Azzurra - Day 9 – Brian’s Birthday party-

Position: 2.12.13 13:00, 25” 26’,300 N; 027” 37’,855 W
Since we went thru the huge deep we changed our course from south to north
where we expected to catch some wind fitting our sail clothes. We only can
run 40 percent of the Genoa. We went up north about 120 miles. Then at
3:00 am this morning we changed to more or less to the direct course to
St. Lucia. We run 7 t0 8 miles at 50 degree apparent and wind speed of 18
knots. The main is reefed as well 50 percent. It is hard to hold our
course as there is also a strong current with about 2 knots going 135
degree SE. The spinnaker we store on deck was latched down again in order
to survive a bit longer than our two Genaker.
We have no place to dry our clothes, everything is wet, even the bed
clothes. It seems not to be a problem to the crew as the sun is shining
again and we are all in good mood making some progress , also because we
passed the two days gale zone. We stopped fishing for the moment. Nobody
can work or cook. Waves, wind and speed makes would make it difficult to
work on a big fish.
Today we flew in a girl from Cape Verdes, just for Brian’s 60th birthday
party. She was part of the official Birthday opening celebrating the
Voeuve de Cliquot and the usual birthday cake. By the way the birthday
cake did not survive more than 10 minutes and was washed down with a cold
Heiniken Beer. However, most probably the cake is the only. We separated
the party into two parts first part is fun together with only selected
people. Second part will be the official dinner which was postponed due to
several known reasons, waves, wind and speed. The dinner date will
announced as soon as we get into calmer area. We will announce it 24
hours ahead, so guests from far away have the chance to join this event.
