Blue Dolphin - Day 6 - The 1st shower

Having sorted out he water maker and successfully filling the depleted tank, Skipper announced that showers may now be taken.  However, she wants to be cautious until the water maker proves to be reliable, therefore only ONE person can shower each day!  The girls drew lots to see who would get the 1st shower – Sally won.  (Mike is exempt on the basis that he would not use nearly as much water as the girls and can therefore have his shower anytime – he hasn’t rushed off to have one yet!.)

Kathy and Carol will arm wrestle to see who gets tomorrow’s shower!

The weather has been drizzly all day so the crew decided to do some knot practice.   Sally astounded all by doing a one handed bowline – straight off with no practice goes!!  Mike, not to be outdone, did a behind the back bowline.  Skipper then asked ‘where ‘s my favourite bit of rope’  without any clue how odd it sounded.  Kathy and Sally, trying not to laugh, asked why it was her favourite rope and  Carol proceeded to explained earnestly, why it deserved her affection. Trying to mask their sniggers they asked ‘and does this rope have a name’ to which she replied, without missing a beat, ‘yes –little bluey’!!!!  Living on the boat for 6 months can affect some people in funny ways.

Great excitement – Dolphins!!!   Our 1st sighting this trip.   A large pod of dolphins came and played with us.  After consulting his book Mike declared them to be Striped Dolphins.  , Beautiful.

Sally, the quartermaster, is not letting standards slip, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!  Having rationed the supplies in to weeks 1,2&3 there is to be no breeching of  future weeks supplies.  Skipper asked for some of the lovely dried fruit that Sally had bought in Las Palmas but ‘NO’ was the answer ‘No dried fruit until all the fresh has been eaten’.  That told Carol!

Kathy, yet again upped the anti in the cook off.  Lunch was a grand affair of green beans, pancetta and parmesan salad, accompanied by tomato, cucumber and onion salad and garlic bread.  For supper the crew enjoyed a pork stir fry {marinated in ginger, soy sauce and white wine all day!} followed by chocolate and orange SPONGE CAKE and orange segments soaked in Amaretto!  The rest of the crew look ready to throw in the towel.  Although a steely glint was glimpsed in Sally’s eyes.  Maybe it is not over yet.

Finally, the crew want to say a big Thank You to George {autopilot}.  As it has been raining all day he has had more than his fair share of helming and has done it without  complaint.  He is definitely a strong, dependable, indispensable member of the team.

BS.
