Swan Valhalla - Log 4 - last minute preparations!

Thankfully, everyone woke on Thursday without a hangover after and early night. It was up to Victoria, Yoyo and I to hit Corte Ingles for our last big supermarket shop. The boys did some last minute jobs on the boat - we have discovered the Sam is a hundred times happier in the chandlery than in the supermarket! Victoria and I also bought some paint to start our mural on the ARC wall - a tradition on the wall of out pontoon where the best painting wins a prize. We decided that an image of a swan was most appropriate with the navy and white colours of Swan Valhalla (photo to follow!).

The arrival of our last remaining crew members came in the form of Nick and Carl on Friday evening who took rather long than expected as they stopped off on the way from the airport to have a cheeky steak and chips before there arrival! For the evening festivities it was the turn of the Gran Canaria Tourist Board to hold the Farewell Cocktail Party at Club Nautico for those going on the ARC. We had some great entertainment in the form of a drum band and amazing Spanish dancers in all sorts of feathers and glitter. At one point they got Sam, Victoria and I to join in with some limbo - much to the amusement of the rest of the crew! After some good paella and a few more beers some of the crew decided to continue the night with our new Dutch friends in the Sailors Bar. Nick, Victoria, Haig and I decided we would have one last boogie at the nightclub Sotamento!

Saturday was a day of finishing up bits and bobs. All hands were on deck whilst Matt and Yoyo went to the market to get a delicious variety of fresh fruit and vegetables for the first week. The boys put up some nets to hang these in. Victoria and I finished our mural. There were a few panic buys in the chandlery and everyone is very excited to get on board and get going after a lot of preparation. We went for a lovely crew supper and had our last grilled meat and calamari for a while - out next log will be once we have set sail!
