Yesterday was not a day that will live in the memory for
very long. Never the less, it was a beautiful day, the sun shone & the wind,
what there was off it was fickle.......constant trimming of the sails & at
times use of the iron horse to keep us moving along. The crew spent a
considerable time sunbathing on the tramps, not something we expected to do sailing
across the north atlantic!!
The high point of the day was our celebratory meal for
crossing the half way point. We should have had it yesterday but cooking a fancy
meal wasn't an option after the gale. The rib eye steaks, baked
potatoes & caramalised onions were quite superb, washed down with a decent
Australian cab sav & followed by a Spanish almond cake.
Today has started in much the same vain.....the sun is
blazing down from a clear blue sky, we're sailing with main & genoa
at 55 degrees to the wind aimed straight at the Azores. With 15 kts of breeze we
are bowling along at over 6.5 kts. With the prospect of a "Soy's breakfast"
to come ( eggs bacon, beans followed by toast & marmalade)
shortly. Another forgetable day sailing across the
pond!!!
David.
Soy's note: if you like rib eye steak smothered in
pepper sauce (sell by date 2005) so you can't see what you're eating and a
thimble of red- this is the meal for you! That thimble was kinda overkill I can
tell you.
The almond cake was a hangover (and that's the only one
your liable to get on this boat) from the previous ARC! Improves with age I
guess!
