Johanem - Johanem blog 16 May 1130UTC

Hi everyone
Well here we go again! We had a good start yesterday from Bermuda for the 1950 mile sail to Azores . but since then the wind has fallen away and the lighter boats have pulled away from us in the night. We have a new tracker fitted, our fourth, which the yellowshirts assure me is working so hopefully our position will show on the fleet tracker page.

We have 4 new crew. 3 are huge men from Scotland. All have names beginning with G (Gavin, Gus (6 foot 7 inches) and Graham), they all play golf and have not sailed on Johanem before. In their honour we are considering a change of boatname to McHanem. The sassenach team comprises short arse Nick the skip, Ian (veteran of ARC 20120 plus Pete, another tall (6 ft 1 inch) Trips ashore in the Avon in Bermuda required careful balance and not too much movement

Harry the hydrovane celebrated our start by going on strike. Either something has come loose or fallen overboard. Which seems most likely I wonder......! Running repairs from the swim platform so far no good but attempts will continue. On the upside hand steering will give the crew something to concentrate on

One of the last crew, ie Giles, Crispin or Simon appears to have taken home by mistake Ian's battery charger for his Lumix camera. Ian now can't charge his battery so can all 3 of them please check if they have it and if so get it sent to Boo at Pump House before 1 June when she leaves UK to rejoin the boat in Azores.

Signing off now as I'm duty radio net controller and need to work out which button to press

Nick
