EH01 - blog

Good morning all from EH01.

So as the sun rises on day 4 of our trip across the Atlantic life on the ocean waves is good and we are cruising along at a very comfortable speed of around 9 knots after a night with the number 3 headsail poled out, and 1 reef in the mainsail.

The wind has been on average around 20-25 knots for most of our trip, apart from the first day and a bit where we saw wind speeds of up to 36 knots! It made for some exciting surfing action and gave us cause to grin ear to ear as we ploughed our way westwards.

Yesterday the fishing line went out for the first time and within minutes we had reeled in a nice big Dorada, and very nice he was too! We had some sushi, as well as baked fillets, and finally a fish soup which did us nicely for dinner. Once we had reeled him in the spinnaker made it's first appearance of the trip, which had us doing a nice ten knots throughout the afternoon yesterday. Once night was falling, we decided to take it down, just to save any nasty complications over night.

This morning the fishing lines went out again and low and behold, within minutes we caught yet another Dorada! This one was slightly bigger than yesterday's catch, so I am predicting another day of eating sushi and lemon baked fillets all over again. It's a hard life! So the plan for the rest of the day is to hoist the spinnaker after some particularly nasty squall clouds have passed over us, and maybe catch another fish later.

Who knows. The world, which currently consists of a 47.7 foot sailing boat, is our oyster.

Until next time. Matt, Gareth, Vadim, Sergey, Nikolay, Max, Vitaly and Denis
