Johanem - Johanem 30th Nov 2012

30th November

Dear Blogosphere,

You will be pleased to hear that we are making good progress aboard Johanem; at the time of writing we have completed over 530 miles... meaning that we have just 2211 (approx.) to go...! The sailing conditions laid on by the ARC to aclimatise the crew have been well received - moving from the rain and discomfort of the English Channel... to the same with a little sun interspersed. Glad we brought the full set of waterproofs...... Ah..... :-/

So, I hear you ask: "How is the watch system working?".. Good question.... We are working with a 3 watch system - 3 hours per watch. The crew have been divided up ensure that there is no excess skill on any watch..

Nick (skipper) + Tony (Whisky + BS department)
Boo (Skipper's better half) + Ian (Philosophy/astronomy team)
Jim + Susie (IT and Navigation experts)

Each watch is ably assisted by Harry-the-Hydrovane who acts as Chief Helmsman and Nodding Donkey, relieving the rest of the watch to discuss the meaning of life..

Today the astronomy team watch was treated to an amazing display from a massive pod (?) of bottle nosed dolphins who swam around, about and underneath Johanem : performing for us for over an hour. Extensive footage was snapped of the sea where the dolphins had been just seconds earlier - some of the better shots even have a splash visible. If we knew how to upload photos, the best shot would be uploaded. In the meantime, can we recommend Google Images as a stand-in..

Right, off for our sundowner (its an oppressively strict one drink a day regime here). Hope the outside world is treating you all well.

Ian
