Makena - Nov 11 PW Reporting

November 11, 2014
Position at midnight
23.34.808N

The light winds continued through the night and into the day. We sailed a course dead down wind without the mainsail up and slapping. First light brought a gorgeous sunrise with just enough clouds to make the orange pop.

The crew is really into the cruising routine. There a quite a few boats around us and occasional course changes bring us to within a few hundred meters of some of the boats. In the dead of night, this seems too close, during the day we are glad to have the fleeting glimpse of other souls. We have some radio contact with a few boats and are surprised that there are so many problems onboard other boats.

Light winds for most of the day. We went from wing and wing on the genoa and gennaker to our big orange spinnaker. This sail really moves us well. Very comfortable with no mainsail in the light winds. At sunset we dropped the spinnaker and raised the mainsail and genoa to make for easy sailing during the night. The crew has gone through several sail changes with each of the sails and we are getting better all the time.

Best quote of the day from Sarah, “I am so pleased to have an Italian man in my galley making Risotto”. Riki had put together a mushroom Risotto with about ten different types of mushrooms. This dish was molto delicioso and we washed it down with and Argentinean Malbec.
