Ballytrim - Ballytrim log Bermuda 9th - 14th May 14

So, wow.... Bermuda.
Who would have thought. Not everybody gets to call this way.
A lovely, gentle place. Very colonial but also very American! ( 'have a nice day....')
The people are lovely and mainly kind. How often do you walk down your Main Street and have someone, a total stranger, stop to ask how you are?,. Lovely and calm. There's a sense of peace.

Regretfully, peace has been a far off thing for ourselves, as we needed to make repairs on the main sail, auto helm, inverter, VHF and a few other things.
Im glad to say that we appear to have got there, even though the cost is particularly high, even compared to the Caribbean.... ( I never thought I'd be saying that, more expensive than the Caribbean!!?? but that's how it is with islands in the middle of an ocean. )

The weathers definitely cooler here. Quite pleasant unless you have become used to mid/late 20's. For myself Im having to wear 'socks' and even long trousers on one day!!!! Bum. Its back to the cooler regions I'm afraid.

Andrew, co owner of Ballytrim, with his lovely wife Sue, has had to return to the UK, with work commitments, and will sadly miss the leg to The Azores. Our thoughts go to him, as we have the chance to enjoy Ballytrim, in her prime, making a great passage.
The new crew, are all good mates. Most of us have sailed together before, or have sailed with myself previously. We have a common aim. "Have fun, be safe and look out for your friends and the boat": Respect the boat and it will respect you'. We will have a wicked time for sure.

There's been some fun, as you might expect from a group of 'grown up males - on tour' we have been remarkably well behaved though. Honest...... Cycling on one day, along old railway tracks and onto beaches added a little pleasure and allowed the new incomers Tone and Laurie to see a small part of the island.
Half a day was all they were allowed though and then it was time for showing off cooking skills and team work preparing the boat for the adventure ahead.
We might just have time for a beer and a meal out the night before we depart!!
Geoff
