Wings Blog:  Monday morning, Nov 4

So, sailors bang on all the time about the weather, and we're no different.  In the last 24 hours, we've experienced the Gulf Stream with winds whistling along at about 24 knots and a temperature change of about 15 degrees.  Then finally out of the Gulf Stream, a brief respite, but then at about 4:00 A.M., this morning, the first of several (and continuing) squalls.  The first we realized what was happening was when the wind upped to 43 knots and our speed went to 13 knots as we bounced across the water like a cork.  We dug Anonymous Dave out of a deep slumber for some advice; his advice:  "It's a squall.  I'm going back to bed."  What wasn't clear to Anonymous Bob what a
"squall" was --  typical Welshman, he thought it was a small Native American female -- yes, seriously, he IS a crew member on this sail (sigh).

A few things that happened during the squall:

Anonymous Dave admitted he likes cold wieners with Coleman's mustard.

Anonymous Tommy complained he hadn't slept since we left Portsmouth, so he obviously snores when he's awake.

Anonymous Howard -- having lectured everyone on how any item on a boat can become a projectile in heavy weather -- proved his point by becoming a human projectile that traveled backwards and bounced off a wall, as he  was trying to put on his pants.  He is sure to be a strong contender in the "Best Bruise" contest.

Anonymous Bob's humor in buying Anonymous Dave a Sponge Bob toothbrush nearly backfired when he almost stabbed himself in the eye with the toothbrush that Anonymous Dave had attached to the bathroom mirror (see attached picture of the t-brush).

Anonymous Pat is compiling a dictionary of unique Anonymous Dave expletives, which she practices every chance she gets, especially while cooking breakfast at an angle of 25 degrees (which, by the way, was delicious).

Other than that, the crew of Wings would like to inform the Rally fleet that each day for no more than 30 minutes, we are practicing dropping our guard.

More later...
