Gathering in Visby

The ARC Baltic fleet have made good progress following the delayed departure from the Island of Bornholm due to some strong westerly winds. Yesterday the fleet arrived in the beautiful Swedish town of Visby, situated on the north west coast of Gotland. Light winds with reports of good sailing from Bornholm meant that crews arrived in Visby rested and eager to explore their new destination. Despite yacht Oojah diverting to the town of Kalmar where the rally finishes in five weeks time having to collect new parts for their autopilot, they arrived in the early evening completing the fleet for their second stop of ARC Baltic.

For the earlier arrivals yesterday, many used the time to explore the town with some enjoying a classical concert in the cathedral, whilst others used their time to relax after the 200 nautical mile passage opting to watch the Wimbledon Tennis final. Today with the slightly cooler but dry conditions sparked a ‘spring clean’ morning with numerous participants venting, washing and cleaning their boats before enjoying a guided walking tour of the ramparts of Visby in the afternoon.

Tonight before departure tomorrow to the remote island of Gotska Sandӧn which lays approximately 50 nautical miles from Visby, the fleet enjoyed a dock barbecque and gathering providing the chance for the new crew arrivals to meet everyone. After enjoying a night on anchor and day exploring the island of Gotska Sandӧn, the fleet are due to arrive in Tallinn, Estonia on Friday.
