BRIZO - Almost There!

It is 03:45 UTC Monday and we are 234 nm from St Helena. We have been motor-sailing in order to maintain our speed, as directed by the crew members who want to get off the boat. Yesterday we passed through the Prime Meridian (previously know as Greenwich Meridian to some) and are now reporting our position with West Longitude instead of East.

We are looking forward to our visit to St Helena, from what we have read it seems like an interesting and beautiful place. The island is best known as the place where Napoleon was imprisoned and died. The island's history of strategic importance will also be interesting to learn. We have two physical challenges while on the island: Climbing the steps of Jacob's Ladder and carrying approx 175 litres of diesel fuel out to the boat via jerry cans. There are no docks in the harbor and we will be on a mooring or at anchor and will be depending on the island's tender to get ashore.

We've heard reports from previous World ARC rally boats that sometimes the island can be out of fuel or other items normally for sale. The island has no airport and can only be reached by sea. We don't fully understand the frequency of the supply ship from Cape Town but two days ago we happened to pass the supply ship returning to CT so the island should be well-supplied for our visit!
