Rivendell - Logs 4/5 "When it rains it pours"

28 Nov 2012
The last time we chatted we had pulled into Puerto de Mogan to have our sail
repaired. Pedro our sailmaker referred us to Jose, who worked at the local
North Sails loft. Puerto de Mogan is a quaint village strictly for tourists
(mainly British, Germans and Scandinavians) expensive stores and restaurants
with either pricey European goods or cheap Chinese merchandise. We spent a
comfortable evening at the dock. Wednesday afternoon Jose showed up with
the repaired sail. We got a late start, put the sail back on track while
motoring out to sea. We soon hit some very choppy seas and Bruce took a bad
spill in the gally. He fell and slid about 9 feet (3 metres) and hit the
oven with his right shoulder. The hot safety glass shattered - it was all
over the place - Bruce has some bad bruises and a very sore back, and at the
moment has not been able to contribute for the past two days.
Cheers!

We started to make some time today. Taryn has made some wonderful meals
especially since we no longer have an oven, but the microwave can
occasionally fill in. Her cooking has improved greatly over last year. So
far she has made two wonderful stews (lamb and chicken). We are all getting
to know the crew better. Miles and Beau the two youngest met at training
school (U.K.S.A.). Both have an excellent work ethic, a lot of enthusiam,
and are very polite. Beau is bashful, but extremely nice, he also enjoys
food - he's a good eater. Miles is currently smitten with Anna a very
attractive tall blond that he met in Las Palmas (she's on the ARC staff)
he'll be looking for her in St Lucia. Late in the evening we tore our
mainsail again - this time in a different place, so we took it down
immediately. Hopefully we can repair it tomorrow during day light.
Cheers!

Today we have had freshening winds - which is good and bad. We've been
sailing at 7 to 8 knots with just the genoa, but the seas are too rough to
attempt a repair of the main sail. It's been a nice day for reading and
fishing, but we didn't have any luck the water is too rough we have also
tanged our lines a few times. Ian is our most enthusiastic sailor an
experienced dinghy racer. He spent part of the afternoon solo sailing the
boat because Bruce's bad back doesn't allow him to go on deck. Tonight looks
like a good movie night.
Cheers!
