Two of the most frustrating days ever - and it's Valentine's Day, and
we're all alone....
In the last twenty four hours we have sailed maybe ninety five miles across
the surface of the earth, making only eighty miles or
so towards Recife. At this rate, it may take us five days to
cover the 400 miles or so, and we may get there on Wednesday or so, in time to
miss the Reception at the Yacht Club, the checking in and the tour of
the local area. And to cap it all, our friends from Quasar V, who
left the anchorage some twelve hours after we did, have already caught us
up. Chatting to the other World ARC yachts, are all reporting similar
conditions; wind on the nose, a steep, short head sea that is bringing the boats
to a virtual stop, and, to cap it all, the Brazilian Current, driving us
southwards again at nearly two knots. It's worse than the leg to the
Galapagos - despite the current, at least there was no head-wind to hinder
progress there!
We will warn in you good time so that you have a day or so to wake up in
time to prepare for our arrival.
Meanwhile, Graham's cold is better and he's eating again, and the Skipper
says he's better as well. Best wishes to all of you.
