Monomotapa - 6 Dec

Monomotapa 6 December

Our good friend Guido/Otto/Valerio has been misbehaving, he keep losing compass heading contact and veering off on his own way. This friend is our auto-pilot who when working correctly steers a steady course when the sails are correctly set and the sea conditions are not too rough. We have three names and the one we use is depending on his performance, so today he has been ...
After investigations it was discovered that "he" had a missing link, this explains many things!

Alberto exchanged the hydraulics and now he works again. It feels good to have a skipper that has at least two spares of all important equipment and the knowledge to execute repairs.

At this stage of the journey when the end is approaching, there can be mixed emotions of disappointment that the voyage will end and at the same time a sense of interest to come back to families and friends. Even work appears tempting. Wind conditions are still uncertain and we will see when we reach St Lucia, so far is our VMG (velocity made good) is OK with an ETA on Wednesday.

As it is Friday, we had a discussion regarding what we should do during the weekend. After a vivid and creative discussion we ended up with sailing as the only suggestion.

Henrik wonders how it is going to work with sleep when he gets back. Will his wife find it strange when he gets up at 23.00 and sits on he balcony for 4 hours? Will his colleagues consider it strange when he goes to sleep in the office in the afternoon? Probably not, just business as usual.

Today we again had dolphins a our bow, it was good to see some more animal life than flying fish and an occasional bird. We have also started to see yellow floating seaweed for the first time. Could it possible be a sign of us getting closer to shore?

During the night we watched a strange celestial phenomena. The moon had like a big halo around it. Not close to it but quite some distance away a perfect circle appeared. Between the moon and the perimeter of the circle was just clear sky. Outside the circle there was like a grey fog. Later during the night it disappeared but a small halo appeared close to the moon. How far is the Bermuda triangle?

After 11 days at sea, we have traversed 2099 nm and still have 660 to go. We have passed the 3/4 mark.
