Midpoint celebrations

After 7 days, 1 hour and 30 minutes of sailing we have made it halfway across the pond! The milestone was celebrated with a bottle of the finest champagne, pepperoni sandwich and ABBA pounding in the speakers. A modest party arrangement it may seem for such a longed-for occasion but after all we are racing and I have heard that there will be plenty of rum punch waiting for us in St Lucia.

Yesterday's highlight was to catch up with our main competitor 'Captain Blind' who is currently placed just after us at a 2nd place in our class. Captain Blind is located 10 nm ahead of us but given that they drive a faster boat we are beating them on handicap. Since the contact we have been tailing their boat, copying every of their moves. Rumours say that they on his own blog complained about our tactics: "Every time we jibe, they jibe", and I understand their frustration, but we have no intention to let them slip our grip. Captain Blind - en guarde!

In yesterday's blog post Cy left out his own presentation and I'll do the honours of introducing this middle-aged lad: Cy - a banker and ex-military officer - joined us just the day before departure. Coming down to Las Palmas to join another boat he last minute changed his mind and called Ross who offered the last spot on the boat. Cy is talkative and have a great sense of humour, he is a good spirit who makes the situation for the rest of the crew simply more enjoyable. Cy is taking the crossover as an opportunity to grow a beard. Not entirely sure if it is a sound decision, but I'll give the man
credit for trying.

We are all well and happy. We eat well, so far no injuries and luckily no irreparable damage to the boat or equipment. 1334 nm to go. See you on the other side!

Sincerely yours,
Ebbe
