Firefly - Firefly on the move again

On Thursday September 4th Firefly was re launched after a month out of the water at Vuda Point Marina on Fiji's main island, Viti Levu. With the hull polished and antifouled, Firefly is now set for a few more weeks cruising in Fiji, before leaving on passages to Vanuatu and then New Caledonia, where we will depart on 'ARC New Zealand' at the beginning of November. We will then spend 6 months exploring New Zealand. ARC NZ is a new World Cruising event for the World ARC 14/15 boats taking an extra year in the South Pacific before joining the next WARC in June/July 2015 as it passes through Tonga and Fiji.

Now back from Blighty, having flown home and spent a really enjoyable August in Devon with our Family and Friends we are recovering from jet lag and getting used to living on board again. As Fiji is heading towards summer the temperature has increased considerably so it was a relief to sail away from the marina after 48 hours of preparing and provisioning.

Our current location is an anchorage in the Yasawas between Navadra and Vanua Levu islands. We sailed the 24 miles in about three and half hours having left Vuda with quite a strong breeze on the beam. As we reached away from the main island the breeze decreased and we were finally able to relax as we headed north west. We have the stunning anchorage to ourselves and on arrival went snorkeling over some beautiful coral lying off a pristine beach. Lots of fish and a startled turtle, who swam away at great speed, greeted us in the noticeably warmer water.

Over the next few days we will get the boat clean and tidy, stow the spares and commission new equipment we have bought back. Our next stop will most likely be the south on Waya island before we head on north to Somosomo on Naviti and the 'Blue Lagoon' off Matacawa Levu. From now on we will resume our regular blogs, posted every few days on this site.
