Anettine - 28. May

The captain came on watch at 0000. It was dark, very dark. Nothing to see in any direction, just dark. Anettine was cruising along in 6 + knots, so a sharp watch was required. As the light came a few hrs later so did the rain and the gusty winds. Jonn and Daniel had e very wet watch from 0400 to 0800. The wind disappeared just as they left the watch to the captain. We started motoring. It was somewhat unpleasant in the old sea with some large waves and swells, but at least the sky cleared up and it became sunny. After a while also moderate wind. We decided to motorsail since we still try to catch up with the boats before they leave Horta. We also need time to get the main repaired. It's a minor damage, but it will get bigger if we use the sail as is.

As the captain was checking the oil on the engine before leaving his at 2000, he found lots of saltwater in the engineroom. The keel/bottom of the boat(kjølsvinnet) was also filled up! Anettine is normally 100% dry. The rest of the crew was alerted to start looking for the leak. This could be serious and our first thought was that the collision with the timber log/wood a few days back had cause a leak in the hull. We alerted Bermuda Radio about the situation immediately. We found after a while that we easily could take out more water than coming in. We were very pleased to be able to isolate the leak to the saltwater piping used for household, it could have been something else and serious. We closed the inlet valve for saltwater and establish hourly routines to check overnight and had contact with Bermuda Radio each 6 hrs. Very good follow up from them. They also want a final report when we have approach Horta in two days time. Very professional! Anettine is again 100% dry again as she should be. At the end of the day, this was a good exercise for the crew.
