Sojourner -

5/28:

I could describe very pleasant sailing weather for SOJOURNER three days ago and for right now. In between, not so great. Two days ago we had productive winds but seas from mixed directions. The boat was twisting and rolling simular to the weather we had a few days out of Bermuda. Not as bad, but not comfortable. Last night, about 45 minutes before Paul and I ended our watch at 1am boat time, we were hit by a squall that had 40knts of wind. The off watch came up early and we cope as best we could. The storm did settle down a little so the care of the vessel was turned over to Bob and James. The report at 8:30 this morning was that they had one squall line after another; both looked exhausted. James, who had hoped he was over his seasickness, had a relapse. Paul and I were able to hand steer through additional squalls and periods of heavy rain. By 10:30 we were pretty much out of the bad weather and making good time to Horta. That's where we are now.

The crew is ready for this leg to end. Each is tired from not quiet enough sleep. The boat is getting smaller and it is wet from leaks, rain following us down the companionway and from our wet clothes. We have a list of necessary projects to be done in Horta so I can feel ok about the next 900 miles.
