Ballytrim - Day 4 17th May 2014 Ballytrim

Subject: Day 4 17th May 2014 Ballytrim

At noon today, we had been at sea 3 full days and nights and have travelled approximately 474 nautical miles.( 166 nm in the last 24 hours ), much of that time as you will know has been spent leaning at an angle of 25 degrees. We have not 'tacked or gybed' the boat ( moved position with the wind) through out the whole time, so its like we are always  hanging onto something, whether moving around the yacht, carrying out sail changes/trimming, sleeping or even going to the loo!!.
The crew have requested that so they 'feel at home' when they return home, their beds be set at a 25 degree and angle, so sleeping will be easy. They have also requested that an alarm clock be set so that it goes off every 3 hours, regardless of day or night and that within 10 minutes of that alarm going off, somebody throws a bucket of salty water over them, whether they are ready or not......... In this way the Ballytrim crew will fell like they are "home from home" on return!!!! (no need for 8 hours sleep any more, and just wake them whenever a job needs doing and it gets done!! ITS A MIRACLE!!)
Its been really funny listening to all the stories and banter on the yacht. When you are on deck obviously you chatter about what's going on with the sailing, but then there's fun and laughter about other stuff going on your life.
Some crew have young puppy/dogs that is clearly missing him, children are missing their fathers and Some wife's needs someone to cut the lawn...... All part of the pressure of being an offshore sailor guys!!

So here's a funny a story. First I need to set the scene.
When boys go traveling on their own there are rules. Often they are informal and made up by the tour leader, but they are strict and any transgression of 'the rules' will be dealt with severely, by the remainder of the group...... So knowing there are basic rules, what do you think the penalty should be for the following transgression????

[Cleanliness and personal hygiene are all important on a yacht when you life so close together. The use of baby wipes to clean yourself, instead of using some of the precious water supply is encouraged. To this end most of us, will daily have a 'baby wipe wash' and dispose of the used baby wipes in a fit manner. Be mindful that some of these baby wipes will have been used for the purpose they were made and sold- wiping a bottom!].

The accused is, lets call him Mr L is the user of the baby wipes, and the injured party is Mr T you was the innocent recipient of said baby wipes.
Mr T witnessed my Mr C was attending to his steering duties on deck of Ballytrim, when all of a sudden, without any warning or provocation, several used and 'soiled baby wipes were seen to be thrown from a window/hatch, on the windward side of the yacht and float into the wind - drifting down into Mr T.....Landing on him and causing him 'personal offence'. Mr L was seen to be the only person in the room the baby wipes appeared from and he is charged with "Not being about right" to a member of his crew. ( on a scale of 1:10, 10 being the highest offence, this score around 7!!!
There will now be a court and hearing of this case within 24 hours of arriving in the Azores. The judge will find him guilt - what should Mr L's punishment be? And what compensation should be awarded to Mr T ?

Thoughts by email to this address will be taken into account. ( no attachments though as its difficult/expensive to down load via a satellite phone at sea.)

Its not always possible to get messages away, so please do not be concerned if you don't always here from us.
Take care all. We are.
Love Geoff x
