Day 117; Golf, Joel Work Day & Leaving Moorea; Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Went to bed at 2:18 AM. Had to catch up on logs (3 behind). That happens whenever we're not sailing (anchored somewhere). More 'distractions.'

David got up around 6:00 AM; and I got up at 7:10 AM. Hoping to sleep in. Didn't. Overcast and still very windy in our anchorage. Glad we didn't leave for Huahine last night.

Breakfast. No one liked the orange marmalade jelly. I haven't tried it yet; but will tomorrow. Eggs, bacon and French bread.

At 9:10 AM Tracy from Folie a Deux dropped off 2 rolls of French bread. They cost 53 French francs apiece. Cheap. Reason is that bread is subsidized.

At 1015 AM Brian from Folie a Deux gave us a ride to the dock. There we had the receptionist at the Bali Hai Hotel call the Green Pearl Golf Course Polynesia. A Jack Nicklaus designed course. We played 18 holes from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. I thought it'd be an ocean course but it was really a mountain course. First golf I played since December of 2013. Parred the first hole, then down hill. David won with a 98, followed by Paul with a 101 and I shot a 107. Some of the concrete cart paths wouldn't be legal in the USA. Too steep and titled. Paul missed an eagle by 2 inches on a par 5.

Joel worked on the boat while we golfed, installing the new alternator and belt; new ceiling light switch, which Paul brought with him and which failed 2 nights before, wiping out 60% of our ceiling lights; new LED ceiling lights, as many had some of their 9 bulbs burnt out; and installed a new outhaul sheet for the mainsail. The radio mike in the cockpit still doesn't work. The refurbished one delivered by Paul.

Took a nap at 4:55 PM. Dinner at 7:00 PM. Freeze dried: Beef Stroganoff and Mexican Style Rice and Chicken.

We weighed anchor at 7:45 PM and exited thru the Cook's Bay pass at 8:11 PM. Pitch black outside. A fishing boat in the middle of the pass with a small light gave us some momentary concern. But we missed him.

Once under way the wind was less than we were experiencing in the anchorage; and from behind us, a bad direction to be from. Makes sailing harder. I put a quarter Transderm patch on David and Paul for seasickness. Not that they were. Preventative.

While doing the 9:00 PM to 12 midnight watch all was fine until 11:45 PM when a wave collapsed into the cockpit, drenching me. Three or four inches of water on the cockpit floor. The small galley window was open and it was like a fire hose had been injected into the galley area. An inch of sea water standing on the stove top.
